The People’s Baptist Church was organized in January 1971 by 66 charter members. The

members had left Mt. Zion Baptist Church after some doctrinal differences.

The new church family immediately called Rev. Ishmael Kimbrough, Jr., to be their Pastor. He

served for 39 years until his passing in 2010.

During his tenure the church added over 1500 members, purchased 3.2 acres of land, built

two buildings, established more than 25 ministries, and treated over 300 men and women at the Christian Help Center, our drug and alcohol recovery ministry. Our church became a vital part of the local community as we developed close associations with the District Attorney’s office, the Police Department, the Sheriff’s Department, and the local school systems.

Dr. V. K. Jones from Terrell, Texas, was called to be the Pastor on November 2, 2010. Since Dr. Jones has been here, he has brought in the V & B Ministries Conference and the 20/20 Vision Plan Building Project. He also started updating the church facilities and added internet and technical services. He remodeled the fellowship hall and dedicated it as the Pastor Ishmael Kimbrough, Jr. Family Life Center.

The People’s Church, led by our Pastor, continues to be active in community services and local school districts. We are full of hope for a bright future for our church family. We want to be a growing and vibrant ministry to continue to be God’s instrument in bringing others to HIM.
